Don't Go Around It - Go Through It

Don't Go Around It - Go Through It

The 1972 TV series "Kung Fu" (shit am I old) had an episode where the young David Carradine (who was called Grasshopper) was being taught Kung Fu by a very old Master. The old Master took three boards and with one hand smashed all three boards while Grasshopper held them out in front of him. Carradine tried and couldn't get through one board.

Grasshopper asked the old Master how could you do that when you are very old and I'm young and strong. The old Master said: "you see the first board and try to hit it. I see your chest beyond the three boards and try to hit that."

Sooo, when a serious problem comes your way what should you do? You could be sad. You could be angry. You could be depressed. You could give up and do nothing. Or you could decide (it is your choice) to go through it - deal with it and expect a good happy result after it's over.

Two divorces has taught me to do the latter and guess what, I got through the other side with a happy life.

Some Beach Somewhere

Some Beach Somewhere

Some Beach performed by Blake Shelton has a message - do you get it?

Driving down the interstate
Running thirty minutes late
Singing Margaritaville and minding my own
Some foreign car drivin' dude with a road rage attitude
Pulled up beside me talking on his cell phone
He started yelling at me like I did something wrong
He flipped me the bird an' then he was gone
Some beach
Somewhere

There's a big umbrella casting shade over an empty chair
Palm trees are growing and warm breezes blowing
I picture myself right there
On some beach, somewhere
I circled the parking lot trying to find a spot
Just big enough I could park my old truck
A man with a big cigar was getting into his car
I stopped and I waited for him to back up
But from out of no where a Mercedes Benz
Came cruisin' up and whipped right in
Some beach
Somewhere

There's no where to go when you got all day to get there
There's cold margaritas and hot Senoritas smiling with long dark hair
On some beach
Somewhere
I sat in that waiting room
It seemed like all afternoon
The nurse finally said doc's ready for you
You're not gonna feel a thing we'll give you some Novocaine
That tooth will be fine in a minute or two
Then he stuck that needle down deep in my gum
And he started drilling before I was numb
Some beach
Somewhere

There's a beautiful sunset burning up the atmosphere
There's music and dancing and lovers romancing
In the salty evenin' air
On some beach
Somewhere
On some beach, somewhere

It's a simple message. If you didn't get it, let me help you:

When bad shit happens to you - even if it's not your fault, don't get angry, don't get frustrated, don't get depressed, don't consider getting even, just change your attitude to a positive and think about:

A Real Man

A Real Man

Hi all - I'm Back! Since my back surgery this is the first time I'm able to sit long enough in front of my computer to write blog number 516. Even though I have a long way to go, it feels great to be back - I'm Back Baby - I'm Back!

OK, now on with today's blog - A Real Man

If you asked my mother who was a Real Man, she would say Actor Clark Gable. Now a days, people think the Rock (Dwayne Johnson) or Bradley Cooper are Real Men. If you ask a person who loves science, they might say Stephen Hawking or Albert Einstein were Real Men. If you are a political person you might say John Kennedy or Ronald Reagan (depending on which side of the isle you stand) were Real Men. If you are part of the LGBTQ community (or a supporter) a Real Man or Woman or both might be Anderson Cooper or Mary Kay Henry.

Although these people might be Real Men or Women, my definition of a Real Man (same is true of a Woman) is:

*  Someone who always tells the truth as they truly believe it.

*  Someone who can support themselves without the help of others (unless they have a significant disability)

*  Someone who takes responsibility for themselves and will take responsibility for their actions.

*  Someone, if they decide to have a family or even have a pet, will make sure they are cared for, nurtured, loved and given every opportunity to succeed.

*  Someone who will stand up for what they believe in.

*  Someone who has a sound moral compass and always tries to do the right thing.

*  Someone who takes the time to make love to someone not just slam-bam-thank you-mam.

*  Someone who tries to be the best version of themselves.

*  Someone who loves life.

I believe my son Brian is a Real Man. I believe I'm a Real Man.
