Jealousy

Definition Of Jealousy

Do you know a jealous person? Are you a jealous person? Many of us would say yes to the first question and no to the second. If you're saying no to the second question - I'm calling bullshit.

OK, you may not be jealous of your spouse or you may not be jealous of your best friend. However, we all want something we don't have or can't have and that leads to jealousy.

Let's start with Webster's definition of jealousy:

jealous resentment against a rival, a person enjoying success or advantage, etc., or against another's success or advantage itself.
* mental uneasiness from suspicion or fear of rivalry, unfaithfulness, etc., as in love or aims.
* vigilance in maintaining or guarding something.
* a jealous feeling, disposition, state, or mood.

Kenny Felderstein's definition of jealousy:

* An insecurity within yourself.

* A feeling you don't deserve what others have.

* An anger inside you because you believe you can't get what you want.

* A feeling that society and the Western System of Democracy says that you should have more.

* A learned mental state from growing up with unhappy jealous parents, siblings and/or relatives.

I want to be rich. Well, who the hell doesn't want to be rich? The question is are you jealous because you don't have the means to become rich? Are jealous of someone else that is rich? If you are, maybe one or more of my definitions above might be the cause.

I want to be like Mike. Is that because you're jealous of Mike. If so, maybe that's because of my first definition (An insecurity within yourself.)

I want to be taller. If you're jealous of tall people it may be because of my third definition (An anger inside you because you believe you can't get what you want).

You probably know better than I what you're jealous of. Being jealous will not destroy your life, but it will lead to unhappiness if you take it too far.

The More You Love Yourself Just The Way You Are, The Less Jealous You Will Become

You Have The Key

You Have The Key

Song writers write lines that are just brilliant. In the song "All Ready Gone" by the Eagles, Don Haley wrote, "often times it happens that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key." I'm a living example of that line.

I'm sure each of you have found yourself is a situation at work or in your personal life that felt you were bound by chains. In those times did you feel like there was no or unacceptable solutions? In those times did you feel that you had no control of the situation?

I'll bet that in those times you didn't consider you had the key to make the situation better. I'll bet that in those times you didn't think you had the key to control your happiness. You were wrong and if you're in that situation now you're wrong today.

You have the key. You just have to decide to put it into the lock and remove the chains. To do so takes guts, a willingness to look bad to others and a strong desire to want happiness for yourself.

You can change your job. You can change your relationship. You can speak up to family and friends. You can say what you believe even if others won't agree with you. You can speak up to and challenge authority. You can change your life for a more positive and happier one.
