Do You Remember This Song By Bill Withers:
"Lean On Me"
Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain, we all have sorrow.
But if we are wise,
We know that there's always tomorrow.
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on.
Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show.
You just call on me, brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand,
We all need somebody to lean on.
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on
You just call on me, brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand,
We all need somebody to lean on.
If there is a load
You have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me.
Call me if you need a friend
Call me, call me, uh-huh
Call me when you need a friend
Call me if you ever need a friend
Call me, call me
We all have pain, we all have sorrow.
But if we are wise,
We know that there's always tomorrow.
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on.
Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show.
You just call on me, brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand,
We all need somebody to lean on.
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on
You just call on me, brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand,
We all need somebody to lean on.
If there is a load
You have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me.
Call me if you need a friend
Call me, call me, uh-huh
Call me when you need a friend
Call me if you ever need a friend
Call me, call me
Even if you don't remember the song, the words are what we all hope for. How many times in your life you needed someone to lean on? It doesn't have to be a catastrophe, it just has to be a time (or times) in your life when things suck and someone was there for you.
If I look at my life, there were many people who I could lean on when I was down. Just to name a few:
When I was separated from my first wife and moved out, a dear friend, Juanita, was there for me. she helped me get an apartment and encouraged me to start living life again.
After the divorce, I was a mess and felt that I was unlovable. My friends from back east, Mark and Patti, called me and said they were there for me and I should call them whenever I needed someone to talk to. They got me through a very bad time in my life.
Lastly, during my second divorce, I met the love of my life, MY Ellen. She was everything to me then and everything to me now. She is my best friend. She has proven to me that she will always be there for me. She makes me feel mighty, mighty real.
Do you have someone to lean on? If you don't, it could be a sad life. If you are someone who doesn't feel you need someone, you are living half a life. Are you the one that someone else can lean on? Your life will be enriched if you are that person.
I am proud to say I am both. I want someone to be there for me and I want to be that person others can;
Lean On Me
