Immortality

Immortality

First, Happy And Healthy New Year to all. I've been reading Michio Kaku's book called "The Future Of Humanity." The book is mainly about space travel in the future. We all want to know if there are others like us out there. Most of us realize that no matter what we do, the Earth is not going to be here forever for so many, many reasons. Most scientists believe there are many, many Earth-like planets in our solar system.

The problem today and for the foreseeable future is - how the hell to we get there. All of these Earth-like planets are so far away that unless we are able to build a WARP engine (Like the one in Star Trek) we will need at least 200 plus years to get to the nearest one.

Scientists, backed by billions of dollars from supper rich people (so they can live forever), are working on a few ways to become Immortal or at least enable humans to live at least 200 years. NASA is also chipping in because they know we have to populate another world or the Human Race will become extinct.

All of the solutions will never happen in my lifetime, but if you were just born today you have a shot. The body's cells break down over time. One solution is to stop them from breaking down. However, if we were able to fix the good cells from breaking down, we would also enhance bad cells (like Cancer cells that may be dormant), to spread throughout our body.

Another solution is to modify our DNA at birth so that the mortal gene's clock slows down. There are many, many moral issues with screwing around with our DNA to create that solution (can you spell Designer Babies).

Still another solution is to copy our brain into a Robot that can live for the long trip to the stars. Believe it or not, scientists are working on such a solution. We have already mapped the human brain. We have already been able to convert a very small part of a human brain onto the chips that run our computers.

There are two problems with this solution. First, the computer chips of today are limited on how many you can put into a computer to mimic the human brain. How about billions of chips in a computer that would have to be the size of Philadelphia and cost more than the economy of the United States.

In the many decades to come we might be able to stop using silicone memory chips and use memory chips made of the same stuff our brain uses. That would be a good first start (remember we still have to build a spaceship that can get to these distant planets), but some scientists and many other people have concerns that these Robots will take over humanity.

Sooo, I have been asking myself do I want my brain put into a Robot? Do I want Robots to colonize another Earth instead of ME? Most importantly, do I want to be Immortal?

Everybody who is healthy would say YES. But just think about it. The current population of the world is already eating up much of our resources. Do I really want to be 200 years old trying to find some food to eat, air to breathe and shelter? Do I really want to live on a distant planet that doesn't have a supermarket, an Italian restaurant or a casino?

Well, what about the Robot idea? Sure, my memories would be intact. Sure, I would be superhuman with skills beyond what the human body can do today. Sure, my brain would be much smarter than it is today. The BIG BUT IS, what about the taste of a delicious desert? What about the love and closeness of another human being? What about the enjoyment of a great movie or concert and what about no longer having a fabulous organism?

Take Time To Reflect

Take Time To Reflect

Right now, I'm sitting at my computer and writing something that has to do with reflection. I just had lunch with my beautiful wife. Before that my son, daughter-in-law and my two grand kids called Ellen and I to wish us a Merry Christmas.

That got me to reflect on how wonderful it is to have family who cares about me. Now I'm sitting here and taking time to reflect on my life. Now I'm sitting here and thinking about how much I appreciate my life.

I guess when your older (like me) and have more time away from a busy schedule, you start to take stock of your life. However, even when your younger there should be times for you to reflect. the holiday season is a perfect time.

Most of us love the holiday season because it just seems that almost everybody is happy and giving good cheer. That season always makes me happy for that reason. When your happy and everyone around you are happy, it so easy to reflect and appreciate how good life can be.

Then when the holiday season is over, we go back to the grind. On Christmas we love the snow. After the holiday season we get pissed off because the snow makes are life harder. During the holiday season, we love the love and happiness we get from friends and family. After the holiday season some friends and family get on with their lives which doesn't always include you. Therefore, after the holiday season reflection gets harder or nonexistent.

How do we live everyday like it's the holiday season? Well, you can't change your friends or family, but you can change YOU. You can decide you're going to give love and cheer to everyone you see.

You can give happiness and thanks to the clerk who checks you out at the grocery store. You can give positive statements to your co-workers. You can call friends and family even if they haven't called you first. Most of all:

You Can Reflect On The Wonderful Things Life Has Given You

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

Last year I sent the blog below to tell everybody my feelings about Christmas. This year, with all the negative crap going on around the world, putting Christmas in your heart is really, really important.

My hope is we find a way to have Christmas all year long.

                                  Merry Christmas

Christmas puts a smile on my face. To me Christmas is an attitude not a religious event. Almost everybody I know sees Christmas as a time for fun, laughter, friends, family, food, drink and being merry.

Thanksgiving is for giving thanks. Christmas is for making others happy (especially kids). Jews love the Christmas type celebration so much they created Hanukkah that lasts eight days of giving, loving and joy.

Unfortunately, some people don't like Christmas because they don't have loving people around them. They feel alone and that makes them depressed. That's why it's so important, in life, to make an effort to find love and happiness through people. If that's not possible then we all should find love and happiness within ourselves.

A simple phone call can put a big smile on someone's face. A simple gift or just a card can make someone happy. Having friends and or family over your house will make you happy. Giving love and happiness to others (especially those of need) will make you feel great.

Happiness Is The Forgotten Ingredient In Life

Christmas = Happiness

If You Don't Believe In God Can You Still Be Spiritual

If You Don't Believe In God Can You Still Be Spiritual

"I don't believe in a God because I believe in myself" - Kenny Felderstein. Therefore, if this blog upsets you, stop reading.

Below is the definition of Spiritual:

1- relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.

2- relating to religion or religious belief.

3- one's spiritual home — a place in which one feels a profound sense of belonging

I not only believe I'm Spiritual, I FEEL Spiritual.

My definition of Spiritual is:

1- I believe in the human Spirit. The people I'm most attracted to have a great sense of Spirit within themselves.

2- I believe in Humanity. I believe that my love for Humanity is Spiritual.

3- I believe always trying to do the right thing is Spiritual.

4- I believe loving unconditionally even if you don't get what you want is Spiritual.

5- I believe that "what goes around - comes around" and is Spiritual.

6- I believe giving positive energy to others is Spiritual. I believe giving negative energy to others is NOT Spiritual.

Many people think the only way to be Spiritual is to be religious. How many religious people are not Spiritual - more than you might think and I know a few. All religious people believe in a God, therefore, since they want to get to the pearly gates, they must have to be Spiritual.

My problem with that thinking is many of those religious people who believe in God don't live by one or all of my definitions of being Spiritual. In my opinion, this world would be a much better place if everyone lived their lives by my definitions.

For those who hate this blog, I see nothing wrong with being religious if that what floats your boat, but don't think that just by being religious and believing in God makes you Spiritual.
