BTW, this is not a woman thing, the same clock is ticking for men.

The forties are a great time for sex. You're probably in your second or third relationship (or more - Yah, Yah, Yah). You know what kind of sex you like and want. You're hornier than you were in your thirties and finding a good sexual partner is getting harder and harder. Therefore, when you match up with a great sexual partner, sex becomes a WOW instead of playing on your iPad while the event is happening.

The Fifties is a mixed bag. Many women have moved on from sex and are focused on many other things life has in-store for them. Meanwhile, men are in a mid-life crisis.
