Why I Don't Want To Die
Someone once asked me my thoughts on dyeing. My response was: "the reason I don't want to die is because I won't get to see it all. I'm a technical kind of guy and I love technology. Like it or not, technology has improved our lives.
Yes, there are negatives in any technological change, but overall, our life is better because of invention and technology. How would like to be without a flushing toilet? I have two toilets (called ToTo) that has a heated seat (think about that when you sit on your cold seat in the winter), washes and dries me when I'm done.
How would you like to have to hand wash your clothes, wring them out with a wringer and then hang them up outside so they can dry? That's what my Mom had to do when I was growing up. Today, even the poorest of us either have a washer and dryer or can go to a laundromat. My dryer can dry anything and even take out the wrinkles in my shirts and pants.
How would like to have to find a phone booth and carry change so you could connect with somebody? How would like to have a car that you had to crank just to get it started? I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the point that invention and technology has made your life better.
Some worry that technology will destroy us all. I'm calling bullshit. When technology (as we know it today) didn't exist, people still killed each other. People robbed each other. People told lies that hurt us all. Politicians were just as bad then as they are now. Technology doesn't hurt people - people hurt people.
Sooo, why don't I want to die? It's because I won't get to sit in a self-driving car, listening to the news and drinking a mai tai while the self driving car, powered by the sun, gets me to my destination. I won't be able to visit Amsterdam while sitting in my self-serving chair looking through regular glasses.
I won't have to worry about my hearing or my eyesight because implants into my brain, will fix those problems. A bio heart will replace my heart if it fails. A paraplegic will walk again. I'll be able to control my computer with thought not with a mouse and keyboard.
What I just described is not thousands of years from now - it's less than a hundred years from now. All of what I described will be because of technology. Sooo, why don't I want to die, it's because;
Sadly, I Won't Get To See It All.
