Hasta La Vista - Baby

Hasta La Vista - Baby

Why are we impressed with super heroes and super villains?  Is it because of our comic book days? Is it because we wish we were them? Is it just a way to step out of reality? Is it because we don't take them seriously and have fun watching them? Is it because we wish they were real so we would be more secure? Is it because we believe that in the future scientists will find a way to make us supernatural?

I like the last one because I would love to have x-ray eyes, become 10 times stronger, be able to move objects with my mind, be able to leap tall buildings in a single try and fly, fly, fly. However, since I don't believe any of this is going to happen in my lifetime, I guess the main reason why I like super heroes and super villains is because I don't take them seriously and have fun watching them.

Some of us believe they are stupid and won't watch or read anything that has to do with them. I find that short sighted. It's good for our health and happiness to step out of reality for a few hours. It's good for our soul to remember our comic book days when we were having fun. It's good for our emotional well-being to fantasize.

Life is serious enough without us reading bad news, watching sad but true movies, getting depressed over other people's problems.  Getting away from these realities, even if it's for just a few hours, is a way of putting things in perspective and finding a way to get excited and have fun.

Yes, there is violence in these movies. Yes, some of the characters are scary. My favorite is the Terminator. In a single series, the Terminator is a scary dude who is trying to destroy the world. However, the second movie in the series has the old Terminator being a good guy with good jokes while trying to protect people from the new bad and scary Terminator.

Anyone who can't get a kick out of these action packed Terminator movies is someone who has not figured out how to have fun.

Superman is someone we can always count on. That makes us feel good. Batman has a dark side, but we know he is a good person deep inside. That gets us to root for him. The Joker is a bad dude, but it makes us feel so fantastic when Batman beats the crap out of him. Darth Vader is a really big bad ass, yet we enjoy how bad he really is. Spiderman - well actually I don't give a shit about him. He doesn't give me palpitations.

The real power these super heroes and super villains have is the ability to make us laugh, make us scared, make us feel good when they win or lose, excites us emotionally and allow us to step out of the real world and just have fun.

If you're a little down today, go see a movie that has no spiritual value, no real life value, no need to concentrate while watching the characters blow a lot of shit up.  I promise you'll leave the theater happier than when you went in.

Never forget, happiness is you life's goal. Super heroes and super villains can play a role in helping you get to your goal
