Electronics And Happiness

Like it or not, electronics are part of your life.  Your choices are you can decide to love electronics and all the wonderful new things they bring to your life or accept electronics into your life and use them to your advantage or hate or be afraid of electronics and do everything you can to avoid them.

I'm a lover of electronics.  They have made my life better and happier.  I can't wait until creative future thinking companies come out with something that will make me even happier.  My wife started out being afraid of electronics.  However, she's really smart and she eventually accepted them into her life.  Now, she's a PC junkie.  Now, she wants a car that has every electronic gadget she can afford.  Now, she has a phone that has improved her life.  Now, she wants a new iPad or a new Google Nexus 7.

Are you still holding on to your flip phone?  Do you avoid texting?  Do you still lug a camera around when you're on vacation?  Does your car have a back-up camera?  Do you still use a Thomas Guide when you want to go somewhere you've never been before?  Do you do email reluctantly?  Are you aware that almost everything in your home and your car has electronics in them?

The older generation feels bad that kids today don't talk to each other, in person, face to face.  However, what they don't realize is the kids today communicate more to each other than any generation has ever done before.  Email and texting has enabled people to share their feelings much more than they would do so face to face.  They have a nonthreatening way of saying what's really going on inside them.

The devices that let you see and talk to people over the internet has brought distant family and friends closer together.  I would hardly see my son, his wife and my grandchildren if it weren't for Skype.  It's not as good as being there, but it's a lot better than not seeing them at all.

Electronics enables you to stay in touch with the world instantaneously.  It's not critical, but it sure makes you feel more involved.  When I'm away, knowing the Dodger's score inning by inning is not critical, but it does make me happy.

I'm reading more than I've ever read before since I bought a Kindle.  I hated carrying around books.  I hated folding down pages to tell me where I left off.  I hated trying to find the books on the subjects I liked.  The Kindle solves all those problems.  If you're one of those people who says you like the feel of holding a book, get over it.  Try a Kindle it's only $79.  You'll save that much in book prices in less than a year.

I have a bad back and neck. Backing out or parking my 2006 350Z was difficult and dangerous.  I traded the Z for a new base model Honda CRV.  One reason I chose that car was because it came with a back-up camera.  Being higher in this SUV with a back-up camera makes me feel safer and that makes me happier.

There are so many new electronics coming to your TV set.  Not just stuff like 3D, but electronics that will enable you to talk to people while you're watching a program, buy a product when you see a commercial, turn on or off lights, pop your popcorn, read about a city in Paris when you're watching a movie shot in that city.  I could go on and on, however the most important part is these capabilities can enrich your life if you love or embrace them into your life.

This is not me telling you to join the modern age.  This is me telling you to join today's age.  The modern age has yet to come.  Electronics will enable us to evolve in a positive way just as the car, electric lights and your toilet has enriched your life.

Don't be afraid of electronics and what they might bring.  The free market will sort out the bad stuff from the good stuff.  See them for what they are, devices to make you happier.  Try all of the  electronics you can afford.  It may take you time to make them do what you want them to do, but once you get it you'll never let them go.

Take a step back and think about how electronics have made things better for you.  Appreciate them as you would appreciate anything in your life that makes you happier.

Appreciation is one of the core elements of happiness.  Electronics is just one of many things you should be appreciating about your life.

The more things you appreciate the happier you become.  The happier you become the more you appreciate the things in your life.  The happiness circle goes round and round.
