Kissing
A kiss is the touch or pressing of one's lips against another person or an object.
Cultural connotations of kissing vary widely. Depending on the culture and context, a kiss can express sentiments of love, passion, romance, sexual attraction, sexual activity, sexual arousal, affection, respect, greeting, friendship, peace and good luck, among many others. The word came from Old English cyssan (“to kiss”).
Anthropologists are divided into two schools on the origins of kissing, one believing that it is instinctual and intuitive and the other that it evolved from what is known as kiss feeding, a process used by mothers to feed their infants by passing chewed food to their babies' mouths.
The earliest reference to kissing-like behavior comes from the Vedas, Sanskrit scriptures that informed Hinduism, Buddhism and the Jain religion, around 3,500 years ago. Around half a century later, affectionate mouth-to-mouth kissing was first described in the Hindu epic, the “Mahabharata”.
Academics who have studied it say kissing spread slowly to other parts of the world after Alexander the Great and his army conquered parts of Punjab in northern India in 326 B.C.
The Romans helped to spread the habit to most of Europe and north Africa. The Romans were passionate about kissing and talked about several types of kissing. Kissing the hand or cheek was called a baseum. Kissing on the lips with mouth closed was called an osculum, which was used between relatives. A kiss of passion was called a saveum.
I love hugging and kissing. It makes me happy. In my day, sexual kissing was called making-out. The young adults of today call it hooking-up. The differences between the two are, making-out is all about kissing, hooking-up is more about intercourse than kissing. I hope the kids of today are doing as much kissing as we did in my youth. It would be a shame if the act of kissing went away in the future.
In my day sexual kissing was foreplay. It sometimes lead to intercourse, but most of the time it didn't. I can't speak for women, but I had a lot of sticky underwear when I was a teenager.
Today, I believe most young adults (and a lot of teenagers) go from kissing to intercourse in just a few minutes. In the fifties women didn't have many of the protections they have today. We were very concerned about getting pregnant. Sooo, we kissed much more than we screwed.
I don't have a problem with young people having protected sex because if you read my blog called "SEX," you know my position is that SEX is FUN. I would have saved a lot of underwear and would have been much less frustrated if kissing lead to intercourse in my day.
However, speaking out of both sides of my mouth, kissing was really great in the olden days. We would sometimes kiss for a hour. It was very passionate and intimate. My body tingled all over kissing a great kisser. Even at seventy, I love making-out with my wife. She's a great kisser and she still makes me tingle.
I love the way the French kiss on both sides of the cheek as a statement of affection. I hate a dispassionate kiss as in "love ya - mean it." Whatever reason you're kissing someone it should "mean it." That side cheek kiss where someone places their cheek next to your cheek and kisses the air really pisses me off.
I'm not big on kissing a hand. Kissing a ring - what the hell is that all about? Is that like saying to someone (even if it's the Pope) "I'm inferior to you?" Is that like saying: "I'm not worthy?" People believe kissing a ring is a sign of respect, but any time you think less of yourself you're putting negative energy into your body. Thinking less of yourself to another individual will never make you a happy person.
I love kissing my dog. When she kisses me back I feel sooo loved. There is something great about getting hugged and kissed by a child or an animal. When anyone gives you unconditional love it's a fabulous feeling.
Sooo, let's all start kissing more. Intercourse is a lot of fun, but before you get to that point, try kissing for an hour. OK, at our age that's not realistic, but at least five minutes is realistic.

Passionate kissing will give you back that tingle you had as a teenager
